Donald Trump Issue Statement On Cannabis
It appears that former President Donald Trump is gradually softening his stance on recreational cannabis, especially in the context of Florida's Amendment 3. His recent comments suggest that while he doesn't fully endorse broad public cannabis use, he acknowledges the inevitability of legalization if voters approve it. This marks a notable shift, as Trump typically hasn't been outspoken on the issue.
Trump's position on Amendment 3 aligns more closely with a growing segment of the public and even with some of his political opponents. By emphasizing the voters' role in deciding the policy and criticizing the inefficiency of prosecuting small-time cannabis users, Trump is perhaps positioning himself as a pragmatic figure in this debate. His concerns about fentanyl-laced marijuana also highlight his focus on public safety, a key theme in his political narrative.
Interestingly, Trump's stance diverges from that of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has been more resistant to cannabis legalization efforts. This could set up an intriguing dynamic within Florida's political landscape, especially as the 2024 elections approach.
Overall, Trump's comments could signal a broader acceptance of recreational cannabis within the GOP, especially if Amendment 3 passes with the significant support predicted by recent polls.

Nurse Practitioners Back Cannabis Legalization
A new study reveals a significant gap in the education of nurse practitioner (NP) students on medical cannabis, despite overwhelming support for its legalization and inclusion in their training. Conducted by Simmons University’s School of Nursing and published in The Nurse Practitioner journal, the research surveyed 115 NP students and found that while 94% believe medical marijuana should be legalized nationwide and 97% support its inclusion in NP curricula, only 30% reported receiving comprehensive education on the subject. This knowledge gap is concerning, especially as more states legalize medical cannabis. The study urges NP programs to integrate more in-depth content on cannabis, given its growing role in patient care and symptom management.
Cannabis Will Be On The Nebraska Ballot
Nebraska is officially set to vote on medical marijuana this November, as the Secretary of State confirmed that two proposed ballot measures have qualified. The Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana campaign successfully surpassed the 86,000-signature requirement, submitting over 114,000 signatures, with more than 89,000 verified for each measure. These initiatives aim to legalize medical cannabis use and establish a regulated cannabis industry in the state. This marks the campaign’s third attempt after previous setbacks in 2020 and 2022. With Nebraska now joining other states like Florida, North Dakota, and South Dakota in voting on cannabis legalization, this November’s election could be pivotal for the state’s medical marijuana future.
